We introduced AI Turkey and the interdisciplinary nature of AI safety to the attendees who visited our booth at the Bilkent University Philosophy Festival. That same evening, we held our first meetup in Ankara. We had a great time and we’ll be back, Ankara! 🙂

First Introduction Session

We held our first Introduction to AI Governance program. During one week of our five-week reading and discussion program, which we developed using the most up-to-date resources on AI governance, we were joined by guest AI Governance Researcher Sarah Weiler. Our program, which we modeled after Bluedot Impact’s program of the same name and aimed to make more focused and current, received nearly double the applications for the spots we had available. Some participants went on to gain admission into Bluedot Impact’s programs, launched projects like airiskindex.com, and organized large-scale reading groups on AI safety.

A Meetup at the Kadıköy Istanbul Kitapçısı

As the Fall 2024 semester began, we held a get-together at the Kadıköy branch of İstanbul Kitapçısı, where we met new people and also discussed this year’s plans with friends we knew from previous events.

We held our “Introduction to AI Governance” program for the second time. Just like the first time, we received nearly twice as many applications as we had spots, leading to a challenging selection process. We also hosted AI Governance Researcher and Community Founder Jelle Donders during the five-week program. Some of our graduates have since applied to Bluedot Impact’s programs, and we are staying in touch with many others to follow their achievements.

As AI Safety Türkiye, we held our first Istanbul meetup. Students from many different universities and young professionals working in various fields attended our event, which took place at Postane.

Koç University AI Safety Presentation

We gave our “Introduction to AI Safety” presentation at the workshop organized by the Koç University Effective Altruism Club. We answered questions about artificial intelligence safety from students across many different departments, from psychology to industrial engineering, and discussed how they could shape their careers in this field.
